The Airport Carbon Accreditation Award Ceremony was held on 3 April in Hong Kong during the ACI World/Asia Pacific Annual Conference and General Assembly.
The year 2019 marks the tenth anniversary of Airport Carbon Accreditation – a testimony of the airport community’s long term commitment in reducing its carbon footprint. With 264 accredited airports around the globe in more than 70 countries, Airport Carbon Accreditation has become a global standard which recognizes an airport’s pathway in reducing carbon emissions with the ultimate goal of becoming carbon neutral. Accredited airports collectively welcomed 3.6 billion passengers last year, a total of 43.7% of global passenger traffic. Among those, 49 airport operators reached carbon neutrality.
To mark this momentous juncture, an animation was shared with the audience and 18 out of 54 accredited airports in the Asia Pacific region gathered to receive their certificates. The 54 accredited airports in the region welcome 37.3% of annual passenger traffic, an expressive figure, especially considering the challenges related to reducing carbon emissions while meeting the ever-growing traffic demand within the region.
Congratulations to the Asia-Pacific accredited airports and to ACA for its 10th anniversary!
